jessehattabaugh: Aren’t you going to get tired of playing New York Times editor in chief? I mean, every day there are thousands of news stories written. Which ten are the most interesting? That’s a highly subjective question. Interesting to who? What a white male American thinks is important is quite different from what a black female Canadian might find interesting. I don’t suggest you try to be the only filter because that’s bound to stress you, and take time away from your various Tumblprojects which I think we all agree would be a sin. Here’s an idea; what if you choose ten contributors who will all be required to post ONLY one thing a day. If a contributor misses a few days, kick ‘em out and let the next person on the waiting list have a shot. That’s kind of how real newspapers do it right? You’re totally right. Being the sole moderator would not end well, and I wouldn’t want the responsibility. Especially when it comes to the subjectivity of what constitutes a “top story,” as you point out. Personally, I’d love to know what the majority of people in developing nations consider the top story of the day. Lastly: Damn, that’s a fine idea there. Really. Perhaps we try to get as diverse of a group of contributors as possible: gender, race, geographic et cetera. Sidenote: Finally, no more photos displaying on my public site when I reblog an image that’s no longer relevant to the discussion — so the same photo doesn’t show up three times. Those post tags have limitless potential.

In that case, I’d like to nominate dihard. She’s on a trip right now, but her entries are consistently high quality discussions of news stories.  Perhaps other people have similar reccomendations?
The next thing to consider is tone, Testumbrlone being an excellent example of why that’s neccessary. Will the contributors be allowed to comment, or merely report in journalistic fashion? Are they required to deliver their own paraphrasing of the story, or can they quote and link to news sources? Also, how do you prevent them from covering the same stories? Who gets to report about what Barack Obama ate for lunch today? Perhaps whoever posts first gets the story?
